Dance of the Shaman Spirits
Filmed in Qingyuan Manchu Autonomous County in northeastern China, Dance of the Shaman Spirits is my self-choreographed traditional Manchu shamanic dance piece. In Manchu spiritual practice, dance lies at the heart of ritual—serving as the primary medium through which shamans communicate with the spirit world.

Drawing on two years of extensive fieldwork in Qingyuan, Xinbin, and Jilin, my research titled "The Secularization of Manchu Shamanism" delves into the complexities of religious identity and its structural constraints, under the guidance of Professor Richard Payne from the University of Chicago.
